Objectivos

To increase students’ understanding of the Romanian cultural and social space in past and present times; - To analyse cultural values and beliefs reflected by the Romanian language; - To discuss the representation of the Other in the Romanian literature; - To reflect upon 19th c. Romanian cultural values and traditions and how they changed in time; - To discuss Romanian identity as a multi-layered concept and how perspectives on identity have changed in time, especially in the transition from communism to post communism; - To use the awareness and the knowledge about Romania acquired throughout the course to design a well-informed end-of-course presentation on a topic of the students’ choice, with supervision and guidance.

Programa

This course aims to increase students’ awareness of the Romanian cultural and social space and, thus, to give them reliable points of reference in understanding, interpreting and possibly interacting with a space which is not very well known in Portugal. The sessions of this first edition of the course will be given by Romanian professors at various Romanian universities. They will be partially lecture-based (face-to-face and ZOOM) followed by group discussions and interaction on forum in Google Classroom. The language of instruction will be English. 1. Introduction. Métodos de ensino e avaliação

End-of-course presentation (20 minutes + 10-minute discussion) on a topic of the students' choice, with supervision and guidance.
