The Wife of Martin Guerre / Le Retour de Martin Guerre

Explanation of the true story of Martin Guerre, who left his wife for 8 years and was replaced by an impostor who pretended to be him. When the impostor/thief is later challenged by Guerre's family and this goes to court the real Martin Guerre appears and the impostor, Arnaud du Tilh, is hanged and burned and condemned to Hell. (This is 16th century France). The wife is also excommunicated for adultery. The French film follows the story absolutely literally.
