Objectivos de aprendizagem: esta Unidade Curricular oferece uma introdução às tendências historiográficas mais recentes. Estudo do desenvolvimento cultural, político e institucional da China Ming e Qing até as guerras do Ópio. Espera-se que, no final do semestre, os alunos tenham adquirido conhecimentos fundamentais a cerca da China Ming e Qing. Através da leitura e discussão dos textos em aula pretende-se ainda que os alunos desenvolvam um sentido crítico e analítico informado, consistente e independente. Conteúdos programáticos: estudo dos conceitos chaves da História Cultural da China Ming e Qing até 1840 com um particular enfoque em fontes primárias (em tradução inglesa).

Learning outcomes: this course provides an introduction to recent historiographical trends. Survey of cultural, political and institutional developments from the Ming to the Qing dynasties up to the Opium wars. By the end of the semester students are expected to have obtained fundamental knowledge about China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The critical analysis and discussion of texts in class further aims to foster students’ ability to develop an informed, consistent and independent way of thinking. Syllabus: survey of key aspects of the of Chinese Cultural History from the Ming to the Qing (1840) with a particular emphasis on primary sources (in English translation).
