For those of you who wish to do the exam, I am sending you the required information.

O exame terá lugar no dia 2 de Junho 2020, das 12h às 14h.
The exam will take place on June 2, 2020, from 12am to 2pm.

O exame, consulta, será constituído por duas questões com igual valor (10/10).
The exam (with free access to spurces) will consist of two questions with the same value (10/10).

PROCEDIMENTO:
1- O exame será enviado para o endereço institucional dos alunos cerca das 11h, 50m;
2- Todos os alunos devem ingressar na sessão e escrever o seu nome completo no bate-papo;
3- O exame poderá ser efectuado em português ou inglês;
4- Da primeira página deverão constar os seguintes elementos:
4.1. Nome completo
4.2. Número de aluno
4.3. Curso
4.4. nome da Unidade Curricular – CULTURA MODERNA ou HISTÓRIA E CULTURA INGLESA, SEC. XVI- XVIII
5 – O exame deverá ser enviado até 20 minutos após o período do exame para o seguinte endereço: adelaideserras@campus.ul.pt.

PROCEDURE:
1 – The exam will be sent to the students’ institutional e-mail c. 11,50 am;
2 – Every examenee must ingress in the zoom session and write his/her full name in the chat;
3 – The exam may be answered either in Portuguese or in English;
4 – The front page must include the following data:
4.1. The student’s full name;
4.2. Studentps number;
4.3. Name of the course;
4.4. Name of the subject - MODERN CULTURE or ENGLISH HISTORY AND CULTURE, SIXTEENTH-EIGHTEENNTH CENTURY;
5 – The exam must be sent back until 20 minutes after the closing of the exam to the following e-mail address: adelaideserras@campus.ul.pt.

Main treatises.The scientific revolution: the new science and its role on the moulfing of a new way of life.the most relevant theories of knowledge: rationalism and empiricism. The eighteenth-century revolutions: the American Revolution, the French Revolution and the Industrisl Revolution.The aesthetic schools and their cultural meaning.

Flemish Art zoom session

Flemish art .Ftom -Hieronymus Bosch's disturbing depictions, as for instance, the triptic of the Garden of Earthly Delights to Holbein's portrait and courtly painting. Analysis of the Ambassadors as a glimpse into sixteenth-century view of the world by the elite of educated men accross borders.
  The realistic aesthetic approach in connection with the bourgeois, Calvinist culture of the Netherlands. The domestic themes in Vermeer's work and the urban way of life.

Landscape painting: Nature as the work of art's central figure. Approach of some of Rubens' work.

Oral presentations on English , French and Italian artists by atudents.

The Baroque: its aesthetic characteristics. The dialogue between neoclassic balance and harmony and  the new movement, colour, brilliancy, exuberance. examples from Bernini.The baroque and its role within the Counter-Reformation - S. Peter's  basilica and the metaphorical tembrace of Christendom by means of the eliptical dispostion of the building. The aesthetic views of Catholic doctrine as depicted in paintings and frescos on religious themes, either episodes of the Bible or hagiographic. Example of Andrea Pozzo's  Gloria di Sant' Ignazio.Themes of classic mythology and the philosophical questioning of human determinism or free will.
