Taking into account the theme of this curricular unit, the programme will be divided into four specific moments: 1. From the Shadows: What is Film Noir?; 2. Classic Film Noir; 3. Noir Transitions: From Noir to Neo-Noir; 4. Contemporary (Neo) Noir Visions: The Many Faces of Noir.

Assessment: One written test (40%) and one (written or audiovisual) essay (40%) + 20% attendance and participation. In-class participation will have an impact on your final mark.

Essay: The essay has to be done in groups of 2 or 3, with no exceptions. It should consist in a three-page analysis of a theme, scene, or film concerning film noir. If you want to create an audiovisual piece, a single page describing your project has to be submitted with the file. Each group is responsible for sending the teacher the necessary information about their project: title of the project (which should include the film you are going to analyze) and group participants, so as to avoid repetition. You will have access to a list of films that you can choose from via Google Drive, as well as other materials. If students need to clarify any doubts regarding the final essay, they can schedule a zoom meeting with the teacher.
