1. Read “Images, Power and Politics”, pp. 37-48, and identify key theories and concepts: ideology, portraiture, icon.

2. Examine development of photography from the 19th century to the present day, as well as its the social and cultural role.

3. Select two image icons and discuss the historical and social context from which they emerged and gained meaning.

4. Examine the treatment of motherhood in painting and photography.
