For next class:
1. Read the chapter “Practices of Looking: Images, Power and Politics”, pp. 10-36, and consider what the authors mean by “practices of looking, what processes are involved in the construction of meaning, what is meant by the myth of photographic truth.
2. Bring one or more images to class, whose meaning changes depending on the historical and/or social context in which it is shown and viewed OR whose meaning changes if it is taken out of context or is miscaptioned.
