Preparing for the job market: CV, cover letter, interviews, research ethics

4 Dezembro 2019, 15:00 Marta Pacheco Pinto

This session focused on the demands of the job market and on how to prepare for them. First, students were asked to interpret a job advert (for a teaching position), and then we discussed CV preparation and cover letter writing. Students were provided with advice on good practice and checklists for preparing these documents, as well as with practical tips on how to prepare for job interviews. (The next session will allow them the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and improve their soft skills for job interviews.) The second part of the session was on research ethics. The topics covered included plagiarism and self-plagiarism, human research and data protection (informed consent), and conflict of interest. The code of conduct and good practices of the University of Lisbon was also covered, and students were informed of the existence of an internal Commission for Research Ethics at the School of Arts and Humanities (https://www.letras.ulisboa.pt/pt/investigacao/comissao-de-etica-para-a-investigacao) and of its duties.
