Writing abstracts and bionotes; presenting papers and posters

21 Outubro 2020, 15:00 Marta Pacheco Pinto

The first part of the session was on how to write effective (conference) abstracts and bionotes illustrated with practical examples. Students’ own bionotes were also collectively discussed.

The second part of the session was focused on research communication and presentation, specifically on paper and poster presentations. We discussed several typologies of paper presentation and the skills needed for an effective oral presentation, including how to prepare and handle visual aids (namely PowerPoint) and tips for successful message delivery (body language, clarity of speech, etc.). With regard to posters, examples of effective and non-effective research posters were provided, and a set of good practice recommendations was given. Students were also provided with useful links to poster templates and with information as to the most appropriate design programmes for the creation of research posters.
