5.Objectivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)

Conhecer as fontes e metodologias da História da Agricultura em Portugal nos séculos XIX e XX; Caracterizar a realidade agrícola portuguesa no início do séc. XIX; Avaliar o impacto das alterações políticas e económicas na produção agrícola nacional; Identificar as relações entre mudança institucional em Oitocentos e a agricultura portuguesa; Definir as tendências de inovação e persistência na agricultura portuguesa no século XIX; Ponderar o impacto das crises de fim de século no sector agrícola nacional; Explicar as relações entre Agricultura, Republicanismo e a I República em Portugal; Caracterizar o impacto da Grande Guerra na produção, agentes e mercados agrícolas; Analisar a relevância da agricultura portuguesa para o Estado Novo, o seu enquadramento institucional e a evolução no período de 1933 a 1974.

 

 5.Learning outcomes of the curricular unit

To know the source sand methodologies of History of Agriculture in  Portugal during the 19^th and 20^th centuries; to characterize the Portuguese agricultural basis at the beginning of the 19^th century; to assess the impact of political and economic changes in national agricultural production; to identify the  relationship between institutional change during 19^th Century and the Portuguese agriculture; to define the trends of innovation and persistence  in Portuguese agriculture in the 19^th century; to consider the impact of the end of the century crisis in the domestic agricultural sector; to explain  the relationship between Agriculture, Republicanism and the First Republic in Portugal; to characterize the impact of the Great War in production, agents and agricultural markets; to analyze the relevance of Portuguese agriculture for Estado Novo institutional framework and its evolution in the period 1933-1974.

I Os conceitos fundamentais para o estudo da Agricultura em Portugal nos séculos XIX e XX; Fontes, Arquivos e Metodologias;

II Caracterização da Agricultura em Portugal no início do séc. XIX; regiões agrícolas, agentes e produções dominantes; práticas agrícolas. Propriedade Rústica em Portugal. Tributação e Mercados

III A Agricultura e as conjunturas políticas portuguesas em Oitocentos: as perspectivas liberais de modernização e as resistências.

IV A Agricultura em Portugal no final do séc. XIX: a crise dos Tratados, o proteccionismo e as restricções à produção nacional. Os novos debates sobre a propriedade rústica.

V A I República e a Agricultua: as tentativas republicanas de reestruturação da agricultura portuguesa nos domínios da propriedade, tributação, trânsito de géneros e ligação com a indústria. A Grande Guerra.A produção agrícola em Portugal na década de 20: a inflação, o proteccionismo, os domínios de crescimento.

VI O Estado Novo e a agricultura (1933-1974): caracterização da relevância estratégica do sector na década de trinta e as características do enquadramento institucional implementado; Avaliação do impacto da Segunda Guerra Mundial na agricultura portuguesa; A evolução nas décadas de 50 a 70.

 

6.Syllabus

I The key concepts for the study of agriculture in Portugal in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; Sources, Archives and methodologies;
II Characterization of Agriculture in Portugal at the beginning of the 19^th century; agricultural regions, agents and dominant productions; farming practices. Discussions and reforms in land ownership. The taxation and markets.
III Agriculture and the Portuguese political situation in nineteenth century: liberal perspectives of modernization and resistance.
IV The Agriculture in Portugal at the end of the 19^th century: the crisis of the Treaties, protectionism and restrictions on domestic production. The new controversies about land ownership.
V The First Republic and Agriculture: Republican attempts to restructure the Portuguese agriculture in the areas of property, taxation, gender transit and connection with industry. The First World War and its consequences for the Portuguese Agriculture.Agricultural production in Portugal in the 20s: inflation, protectionism, growth areas.
VI The Estado Novo and agriculture (1933-1974): characterization of the strategic importance of the sector in the thirties and the characteristics of the implemented institutional framework; Evaluation of the impact of World War II in Portuguese agriculture; The evolution in the decades 50-70.

 

7.Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular

Os conteúdos programáticos foram concebidos para corresponder às necessidades de aprendizagem dos estudantes quanto à evolução da agricultura em Portugal nos séculos XIX e XX.

Nesse sentido, enfatiza-se as características essenciais da agricultura praticada em Portugal no início do séc. XIX, tendo em vista as tendências económicas e técnicas e as principais mudanças políticas e institucionais ocorridas no mesmo período. Por outro lado, analisa-se as relações entre as motivações de desenvolvimento agrícola, os regimes políticos instituídos em Portugal no séc. XX e a sua recepção no contexto da agricultura portuguesa.

 

7.Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

The contents are designed to meet the learning needs of students on the issues related to the development of agriculture in Portugal during the 19^th and the 20^th centuries.
In this regard, it emphasizes the essential characteristics of agriculture practiced in Portugal at the beginning of the 19^th century, in view of economic and technical trends but also the major policies and institutional changes in the meantime. On the other hand, analyzesthe relationship between the motivations of agricultural development, the political regimes in Portugal in the 20^th century and its reception in the context of Portuguese agriculture.

 

8.Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída)

As metodologias de ensino adoptadas combinam a exposição teórica para transmissão das linhas principais das matérias tratadas, a análise de fontes históricas e o debate promovido sobre as leituras dos estudantes (orientadas pelo professor).

Realização de um trabalho de investigação; apresentação oral das conclusões.

 

8.Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

The teaching methodologies adopted are a mixed combination between the teacher’s lecture, for providing students with the guidelines on the issues been treated, the analysis of historic sources and the debate promoted on the student’s readings (oriented by the teacher).

The evaluation is based in an investigation project which the students should submit in paper and in class.

 

9.Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular

As metodologias de ensino adoptadas pretendem corresponder aos objectivos de aprendizagem selecionados. Considera-se crucial o cruzamento entre a exposição teórica de conhecimentos e o trabalho desenvolvido pelos estudantes, nas leituras recomendadas, nos debates nas aulas, ou ainda na aquisição de experiência no contacto e trabalho de análise crítica das fontes históricas.

 

9.Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

The teaching methodologies adopted aim to satisfy the learning outcomes selected. It’s consider crucial the encounter between the theoretical exposition in class and the students’ work on selected readings, on debates promoted in class or on the experience in handling critical analysis of historical sources.
