Datação - Taxonomia e Classificação 

  1. Figuras produzidas por um processo redutivo (removendo/retirando partes da rocha com diferentes utensílios, entalhando a rocha) – gravuras rupestres.
  2. Figuras produzidas por pigmentação (pintura seca ou húmida/cera de abelhas) – pintura rupestre.

  • Alguns exemplos na Ásia - o projecto arqueológico do Museu do Petróglifo do Bangudae, em Ulsan. Migrações e arte rupestre: Cultura Mal'ta-Buret. Os Petróglifos de Kāngjiā shíménzi no Xīnjiāng 
  • Cultos xamánicos - Mongólia
  • Petróglifos - na Ásia Central, Ásia do Sul, Sueste Asiático, Japão 


A passagem da gravura rupestre para um sistema de escrita: as tábuas sumérios - Uruk (livros de contabilidade?) escrita cuneiforme Warka, gravada em placas de argila encontradas no Templo a sul de Bagdad (vg. exemplo British Museum); o caso das práticas divinatórias na China (peitilhos/plastrão de tartaruga e omoplatas bovinos). Do pictograma à escrita chinesa.
