Writing: Writing Semi-Formal Emails 2
23 Outubro 2019, 12:00 • Zsófia Gombár
1) Recycling Vocabulary: Pair work activity: Sts had to choose the 3 most difficult new words (they have learnt hitherto). They were all written on the whiteboard, and explained.
2) Recycling vocabulary: flash cards. The class invented a story incorporating the selected words.
3) Listening, pair work activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnSfEklfo34
A short British Council video was shown on emailing: “Cc and Bcc explained”. Sts took notes, and summarised the video, more precisely, what was said about 1) Cc (carbon copy) and 2) Bcc (blind carbon copy). One of the pair read his/her summary of Cc to his/ her partner, while the other student checked, and added additional or missing information, then the other way round: the other student read his/her summary of Bcc, and his/her partner corrected it or his/her own work, if it was necessary. Definitions of Cc and Bcc were also checked together in class.
3) Listening: How to write well-organised emails.

Sts had to summarise the video, and the main points were discussed together in class.
4) PowerPoint show: The structure of a semi-formal email was explained again:
Salutations, Signing off, Introductory first paragraph: Reason for writing, Body paragraphs, Final paragraph, and Useful expressions.
5) Writing: Pair work activity: Sts rewrote their emails sent to the travel agency, then swapped their texts with another pair, and proof-read each other’s emails.
