Present Simple

Spelling:

1. Verbs ending in the letter ‘y’

marry marries, cry  _______, apply  _______, hurry  _______, try  _______, worry  _______

Exception: if there is a vowel before the -y:
play --> plays, pay --> _____________, enjoy --> _____________, pray--> __________________

2. Verbs ending in ending in: -ss, -x, -sh, -ch

3. Verbs ending in: -o

1) Habits

2) Repeated actions

Water freezes at zero degrees. The Earth goes around the Sun. Money doesn’t grow on trees.

4) Giving instructions and directions

Open the packet and pour the contents into hot water.

First you roll out the pastry, then you cut circles with a cup or a glass.

You take the bus number 711 to Rossio and then the number 735  to Cidade Universitária.

5) Schedules, timetables and itineraries (travelling, cinema, etc.)

The population of the world is rising very fast.

4. With "always, forever, constantly", it is used to describe annoying or frustrating actions

You are always complaining about everything!

Jack and Jill are always arguing!

Mom is always forgetting where she has parked her car, so we usually get home late.

5. Future plans and arrangements

I’m going to the dentist on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
