Recycling vocabulary: Pair work activity: Sts were divided into two groups: certain pairs got a piece of paper with 6 words on it (to define them), the other pairs of Sts got only one word (they had to create two sentences with the word, but leave the word blank). Sts could use the following online monolingual dictionaries:https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/

https://www.merriam-webster.com/

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/

Sts with the 6-word list had to figure out which words should be used in the sentences written by their peers.

Words (from last lesson): bail out, glance at, reticent, frugal, economical, deal with

Group work: 5 groups were formed, and each group was given an envelope and a yellow (for London) and a blue (for New York) pieces of paper. 1) The envelope had the names of New York and London attractions such as Empire State Building, Manhattan Bridge, Central Park, Times Square, 9/11 Memorial/Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Hyde Park, The Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, etc on separate pieces of paper. Sts had to put the names to the right place: London or New York.

2) The envelope also had the schematic drawings of these famous places. Sts then had to match them as well.

3) Listening exercise: Sts checked their guesses via the following videos:

4) Listening exercise: pair work activity: Sts were divided into two groups. One group had to wait outside, while the other group listened to an interview with a person who had been living in London. Then they swapped places, and the other group listened to an interview with a couple who had lived in New York. Sts had to change their impressions about people, shops, holidays, working, and getting around in New York and London.
