The use of shocking photos on the front page. Watching the TED talk by Jonathan Klein "Photos that changed the world" (www.ted.com/talks/jonathan_klein_photos_that_chan...). A panel discussion on the question "Are newspapers correct to use such shocking images on their front pages?" including discussion of the ideas put forward in the following articles: (a) Dropbox TEXT 1; (b) "Photo editors' notebook: What makes the image of Omran Daqneesh extraordinary?" (The New York Times, Aug.22, 2016); (c) "Mark Zuckerberg accused of abusing power after Facebook deletes 'napalm girl' post" (The Guardian, Sep. 9, 2016); (d) "Facebook backtracks to allow iconic Vietnam War photo of child napalm victims" (Associated Press, Sep. 9, 2016). HOMEWORK: Choose an image that sparks something in you and prepare a short comment on it to present on Monday 3 October.
