Zoom meeting: clarifying doubts about the structure of a newspaper editorial; examples of two editorials were sent by email - TEXT 11: "Race and marijuana arrests" (New York Times) and TEXT 12: "Prison works ..." (The Independent);  creating your own editorial: a step-by-step approach. 

Individual oral presentation started today: The week in review - your pick of stories: Andreia Mourão; Ana Filipa Barroso; and Cátia Soares. 

 HOMEWORK: write a short evidence based editorial (instructions sent by email along with guidelines for editorials). This assignment is due on 20th April.

Zoom meetings from 15 April to 6 May and proposed activities

Zoom meetings taking place during class hours will be used mainly for the following:

·      oral presentations

·      questions about the remaining materials under study

·      clearing doubts about assignments and the test

Zoom meetings will take place on the following days:

 15 April:  Oral presentations start

 Assignment due on 20th April: Short evidence-based editorial

 20-22-27 April: Oral presentations continued

Assignment due on 4th May: Personal column

Instructions and materials for this assignment will be sent by email prior to our Zoom meeting on 27 April so that doubts can be cleared in case of have them. Remember this assignment does not have to be done by whoever has already submitted four assignments.

29 April and 4 May: Oral presentations finish

6 May: Writing test (40%)  - done at home during class hours (2 pm to 4pm)

The second writing test will have two parts:

Question 1 – a short evidence-based editorial

Question 2 – a formal essay on journalism issues as addressed by READING MATTERS TEXTS studied in class

 Further instructions will be sent by email.

 After the semester comes to an end, I will email everyone their final grade in due time.
