The New Language of TV News

Class on how the language used on TV news programmes rapidly influences language used around the globe in English, while at the same time a large amount of the language used is merely understood and "received" by viewers without them ever considering using it actively in daily life. Explanation of how the structure of headlines in newspapers may have been responsible for the increasing use of the so-called "cumulative" or "noun-as-adjective" form of the possessive in English usage.
