Discussion of art as a reflection of society based on the Art History Timeline in the manual.

Presentation of the cognitive processes associated with the comprehension of art.

process: we establish relationships between the elements in the work of art itself and stored personal knowledge (i.e. through prototypes, schemes, idealised representations/canonical references (Solso, 1996).

narrative: We understand characters in a narrative by inferring mental states in them and these inferences are based in an intuitive (called "folk") psychology (Prosser, 2003).

1)PRE-STRUCTURAL – “It’s a painting.”

2)UNI-STRUCTURAL - ”People at a table”

3)MULTI-STRUCTURAL – ”People at a table. Food is served. Two are making a toast””

4) RELATIONAL  -”It’s a rather enigmatic scene that resembles a kind of meal. While two characters seem to make a toast against the shadows in the background, another doesn't share it.”

5) ABSTRACT – “(…) the wife of the famous painter Max Ernst  being the author, the scene might represent  something about their relationship (…)”
