Discussion of close reading assignment. Parameters below: 
•Introduction: Very brief summary of the book/film the story locating the section you will be working with physically within the context of the story 
•End the introduction with your thesis idea  (why you are analysing this section)
•Development: Your analysis  
•Conclusion: How the scene selected contributes to the development of the story/assists the author/director to develop the narrative arc or make this more transparent/functional. 

Literary close reading:
•Select a 200-300 word section from the book and apply the techniques in the manual 
 •Use the technical vocabulary in this section of the manual.

Visual literacy applied to film stills:
•Mise-en-scene: ØLighting; ØFocus/blurring; ØSetting ØSet dressing & props; ØWardrobe; ØChoice of actors; ØBlocking - the positioning and movement of the actors; Øcamera angle and level, Øcreation of light / shadow, use of filters. •Framing/Camera angle
