The C1.1 Final Exam

Remember that any enrolled student can take the final exam, regardless of their final mark at the end of the semester, either to pass or for improvement (‘melhoria’).

I will email the exam paper to you at around 10 am on Friday 5th June. You must send me your answers by midnight (24h00) on the same day (so you have a maximum of 14 hours to do it: should be enough, I hope!). That is the absolute deadline given by FLUL. I will not be permitted to accept any late arrivals or excuses.

You will have to do two pieces of writing based on texts in our anthology, “You’ve got to laugh, haven’t you?” If you don't have a copy, ask me as soon as possible. I can send you a pdf.

The first piece of writing will be an essay, in which you will have to discuss “A Free World Needs Satire” and Comedians from a particular point of view. The point of view will be given on the exam paper.

You should write between 500 and 750 words. It is worth 50%.

The second piece will be some creative writing based on “Cake or Death?” You will have to write an imagined dialogue between Eddie Izzard and an audience member. They are talking about the “Cake or Death?” routine in his show. I will tell you the nature of their conversation on the exam paper.

Again, you should write between 500 and 750 words. It is worth 50%.

If you have any doubts, get in touch with me.

Hope all's well!

Best wishes,

Mick
