The Deep South & Descriptive texts

18 Outubro 2017, 12:00 Cecília Maria Beecher Martins

Discussion of why it is so difficult to identity exactly the location of the Deep South - if the term/location cannot be defined how can be be discussed seriously?

Illustration  of how descriptive texts anchor and impulse narrative - showed students sections of James Runcie's documentary A Year in the Life where J.K. Rowing describes many of her characters vividely - and a discussion of how these descriptions worked in her novels.

Read the descriptive texts on pages 48 & 49 and discussed their good and bad points.

Students to do exercises on pages 51 & 52 for next class.
