Final class. Pronunciation. Final doubts. The Wild Rover.

Info on Final Exam:

The TP 10 (9.30 am class) exam will be in person on Wednesday 26th May between 9.30 and 11 am in Room 2.1.

You will have to do two pieces of writing based on texts in our course book, Room to Breathe, Time to Remember. If you don't have a copy, ask me as soon as possible. I can send you a pdf of the 3 texts you need to study. In the exam, you can use Room to Breathe, Time to Remember and a good English-English dictionary.

The first piece will be an essay, in which you will have to discuss Cedric Clyburn’s TED Talk and Shane Koyczan’s “Remember How We Forgot?” in terms of a particular theme. I will give you the theme on the exam paper.

There will be no minimum or maximum number of words. It is worth 50%.

The second piece will be some creative writing. You will have to write a 1st person monologue based on the extract from Emma Donoghue’s novel, Room. In the novel, Jack tells us about the situation he and Ma are in from his own perspective, of course. In the exam, you will have to tell the reader about the same situation, again in a 1st person monologue, but from the perspective of one of the other characters appearing or mentioned in the extract. You will, therefore, have to use your imagination and be creative based on the information Emma Donoghue gives us about ‘your’ character. I will tell you which person you must ‘be’ on the exam paper.

Again, there will be no minimum or maximum number of words. It is worth 50%.

As you see, each piece of writing is worth 50%. So it’s essential that you organise yourself in the exam and give them an equal amount of time (45 minutes each). In my experience, students doing the final exam usually write a good text and a mediocre/bad one, because they haven’t managed their time properly. Don’t let that happen to you.

If you have any doubts, get in touch with me.
