Showed students an example of an opinion essay - students did an exercise where they had to identify thesis sentence and supporting arguments. The thesis sentence was not always the first sentence in the paragraph and so we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the position of the thesis sentence in a paragraph - photocopies of this exercise are in the Red Copy shop.
