The principal aim of this course is to explore different examples of Western Anglophone theatre and give students the practical experience of being playwrights, actors and audience within the classroom. Basic skills, primarily in written theatre practice, will be developed alongside the study of extracts from a number of Anglophone plays, ranging from the classic to the contemporary. Students will also be asked to adapt a literary work for theatrical performance, as well as produce an original text of their own based on material provided by the teacher.

Assessment will be based on a variety of written and oral assignments. Regular participation will play a major role in student success.

A course book with photocopied texts selected and prepared by the instructor will be made available at the beginning of the academic year.
