Esta unidade curricular pretende deslocar o olhar sobre o conhecimento, focando os processos de investigação em artes performativas na experiência corpórea – a um tempo situada e multidimensional – do ‘fazer’, para interrogar a ‘observação objectivada’ que tem predominantemente balizado os paradigmas da investigação noutras áreas do pensamento moderno ocidental. Para tal adopta um formato de oficina teórico-prática, em que se procurará problematizar e alargar as noções de conhecimento e de crítica a partir de uma investigação baseada na prática. Através da promoção da discussão em torno da contingência dos processos de pesquisa artística (tendo em conta a especificidade dos materiais e suportes, os contextos circundantes, os modos e condições de produção, de apresentação e circulação do saber), por um lado, e do desenvolvimento de metodologias abertas à exploração experimental (individual e/ou colectiva), por outro, a oficina Prática como Investigação vai ao encontro das necessidades de quem vier a fazer a sua investigação de doutoramento a partir da criação artística.

 

 

This curricular unit aims at shifting the perspective on knowledge, moving the processes of research in the performing arts towards the corporeal – situated yet multidimensional – experience of 'doing', in order to interrogate the 'objectivized observation' that has largely characterized the paradigms of research in other areas of modern Western thought. To this end, it adopts a workshop format which attempts to problematize and expand the notions of knowledge and critique from a practice-based standpoint. By intensifying the discussion around the contingency of artistic research processes (taking into account the specificity of the materials and mediums, the surrounding contexts, modes and conditions of production, presentation, and circulation of knowledge), on one hand, and the exploration of (individual and/or collective) experimental methodologies, on the other, the workshop Practice As Research also meets the needs of those who plan to pursue a practice-based PhD research.

O modelo de investigação para o estudo das artes a partir da prática faz apelo tanto a procedimentos e ferramentas académicas (pesquisa bibliográfica, recensão crítica, discussão de textos de referência, produção ensaística), como a ferramentas e modos de fazer emanando das práticas artísticas (experimentação, improvisação, repetição e ensaio, selecção e composição de materiais, pensamento colectivo). O estímulo permanente do pensamento prático, do confronto teórico e crítico e da experimentação assistida constituem assim as metodologias nucleares sobre as quais assenta esta oficina teórico-prática. A avaliação será realizada de forma contínua, em função da resposta aos vários exercícios propostos ao longo do semestre (60%), assiduidade e investimento participativo (40%), valorizando-se, em particular, a capacidade de o/a estudante reconhecer e adaptar diferentes práticas de atenção à sua própria investigação.

 

The research model for the study of the arts-based practice appeals both to academic procedures and tools (bibliographic research, critical review, discussion of reference texts, essay production), and to tools and modes of doing emanating from artistic practices (experimentation, improvisation, repetition and rehearsal, selection and composition of materials, collective thinking). The incentive to practical thinking, to theoretical and critical confrontation and assisted experimentation thus constitute the central methodologies on which this theoretical-practical workshop is predicated. The evaluation will be carried out continuously, based on the various exercises proposed throughout the semester (60%), attendance and participation (40%), particularly valuing the students’ ability to recognize and adapt different practices of attention to their own research.
