(a) pair/group work - reading a letter of advice, underlining phrasal and prepositional verbs; looking up unknown vocabulary; and discussing what kind of advice might be given. 

(b) Letter 1 was read aloud by students in group 1; cultural references and unknown vocabulary were discussed; group 1 reported on the advice they would give.

HOMEWORK: The answers to the exercises about conditional clauses will be checked tomorrow.
