Assessment. Course Programme.

OBJECTIVES

A. This course aims at:

  • Reading: students should be able to understand simple texts as well as articles/news on modern events, and descriptions of events and feelings;
  • Writing: students ought to be able to write reports and texts which clearly express their points-of-view; describe people and places;
  • Speaking: students can tell stories, recount past events, comment on films or books as well as explain their views; 
  • Listening: students should be able to understand the main points in dialogues about topics they are familiar.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING SYSTEM

A. Students will be assessed on attendance/class participation, homework, a grammar worksheet, a written test, oral presentations and an assignment on the novel.

Weighting will be as follows:

Grammar Worksheet…                      20%

Written test…                                      30%

Assignment on novel…                      15%

Oral Presentation…                            20%

Attendance / class participation / homework…15%

 

IMPORTANT DATES

GRAMMAR WORKSHEET

There are two possible dates set for the grammar worksheet. Keep in mind you can only take the worksheet once. March 10 or March 19

NOTE: You must have chosen one of the dates to take the worksheet by February 12.

 

WRITTEN TEST: 

There are two possible dates set for the written test. Keep in mind you can only take the test once.     April 14 or May 7

 

NOTE:

·        You must have chosen one of the dates to take the test by March 10.

·        If you do not come to class on the day you are meant to do your written test or your oral presentation, you will get a 0.

 

ASSIGNMENT ON NOVEL

The delivery of the assignment on the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon will take place on:              April 30 & May 5

 

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

Dates for oral presentations:

                              March 5 | March 26 | April 7 | April 23 | May 12 & 14

 

·        You must submit the topic of your oral presentation by:   February 12

·        If you do not submit any topic until that date, you will get a 0.

·        On the same day, you must select the date in which your oral presentation will take place.

Students will also be given access to a shared Google Drive folder, which will be used to conduct online exercises and group assignments.
