Brief analysis of the language used by the written press in its headlines. Demonstration of how this style may have affected English usage over the last fifty years or so. Explanation that an inability to understand the headlines of a common newspaper int he UK or USA does not mean that the foreign user of English is less than competent: these styles are almost closed codes.
