Course description

This syllabus incorporates the CEFR guidelines for Academic English at a C2 level. It will focus on acquiring and practicing the vocabulary and structures necessary to reflect critically on ourselves, our writing and artistic content throughout the World of the Arts.

In groups, students will prepare a glossary for analyzing a wide range of arts and then apply that lexicon to the critique of their own writing, that of their colleagues and a series of different genres of art. At least one field trip will be required (potential exemption for worker-students). In addition, a variety of writing exercises at the C2 level will be completed to widen students’ range of written and spoken language in a range of registers.

Visual Arts: Paula Rego

19 Setembro 2024, 15:30 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today, we began to look at a selection of paintings from Paula Rego's Tate Britain exhibition (2021).  The students made some very good insights into the paintings' potential meanings and how these might have been achieved through the artist's specific use of subjects, objects, form, composition, colour and scale.

Next class: we will continue to look at Rego's work and hopefully read one of the reviews.
