Different ways of looking and film and our connections with films

Discussion of the texts "Utopian Film" and the Preface to Norman Holland's Meeting Movies where he presented the thinking behind free associative film analysis. 

With this discussion we were able to examine different opinions of why/how film can be relevant in contemporary society and in the life of the individual.

Students must read Holland's chapter "Casablanca: America's and Mine" for the next class.


Literary close reading

In a combined classroom exercise students performed a literary close reading of the short story "A Band Apart". Different outcomes were discussed.


I also presented interviews with historians/scholars/authors/directors/show runners speaking about books and TV shows that are part of the research sets and students selected their individual research set.
