Presented and discussed the progression from Gothic literature to Gothic film - why and how this happen and what it permitted in terms of exploration of themes and development of techniques in film (Edison's Frankenstein as opposed to the work of the Lumier brothers). 

Then illustrated how Gothic elements entered other types of film, in particular film noir.
Discussed the elements of film noir  and its historic context and relevance. 

Began the screening of George Cukor's Gaslight (1944) as an example of the blending of Gothic/ noir and even psychological thriller. 

This film will also lay the foundation for the discussion of the concept of hermeneutical injustice as presented by Miranda Fricker.
