Students were introduced to the concept of literary close reading following the instructions in the manual working with the introductory 3 paragraphs of William Faulkner's short story "A Rose for Emily"

They then did practical exercises with W. B. Yeats's poem "Ballon of the Mind" and Kate Chopin's flash fiction text "Ripe Figs".
