We did free writing exercises to general and literary prompts to help students develop ideas for their narrative texts.
We also ready longer literary texts looking for the orientation; complication; resolution structure.
Students submitted their descriptive texts.
Oral presentations

Writing narrative texts - structure
5 Dezembro 2016, 10:00 • Cecília Maria Beecher Martins
Presented students with the layout expected in a Narrative Text and they will have to submit their final written assignment - a 500-word narrative text on Weds 14th December.
1) Orientation: Sets
the
scene:
where
and
when
the
story
happened and introduces the participants of the story: who and what is involved in the story.
2) Complication: Tells
the
beginning of the problems which leads to the crisis (climax) of the main participants.
3) Resolution: The
problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending
4) Re-orientation/Coda:
This
is
a closing remark to the story and it is optional. Used in fables etc.
We looked at examples of narrative texts that follow the above structure.
We also looked at the verbs used in these texts and how they mostly flow between simple past, past continuous and past perfect (simple and continuous). We did verb tense exercises in narrative texts.
We also did exercises with linking words and relative clauses.
