Discussion of  the short story"Neighbours" by Paul Theroux.
HOMEWORK: Do the multi-word exercises on pages 13.14 of the Workbook, and the exercises about present perfect vs simple past and past perfect vs simple past uploaded onto Moodle (see the Grammar folder). The answers will be checked next class.

British vs American people: discussing different personality traits and stereotypes.  Reading the article "A typical Briton: uptight but witty" (The Guardian). TEDx talk by Lynne Murphy: "American vs British politeness".

Literary terms for analysing a short story: main character; minor characters; first-person narrator; third-person narrator; setting: time and place; point of view; plot vs theme; plot twist/turning point/climax; story diagram: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution).
HOMEWORK: Read the short story "Neighbours" by Paul Theroux.
