Persuasive Writing

16 Novembro 2020, 18:30 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Summary for November 14th 2020

This day, we had our make-up class for the class I missed in late October due to illness.

We began our unit on Persuasive Writing by learning about 20 different persuasive writing techniques (these can be found in the course book).
We then watched a YouTube clip of Winston Churchill's We Shall Fight on the Beaches.  Those of you who missed today's class can watch the clip here and should attempt to identify the techniques used throughout:

Homework: students are to identify which of the 20 techniques are used and feed back to the class next class.

Summary for 16th November 2020

Students fed back the persuasive techniques they identified in Churchill's We Shall Fight on the Beaches.
Following this, we watched Barack Obama's DNC 2012 speech.  Students who missed today's class can watch the speech here:
Students were then put into groups and given a section to analyze for homework and to feedback to the class on Tuesday.  They were instructed to:
  1. find the persuasive techniques in their section;
  2. identify the target voters in their section.
