7 Maio 2020, 16:00 Paula Alexandra Carvalho Alves Rodrigues Horta

Students'  final assessment has been discussed.

Important notice for students sitting the exam in June:
The exam will cover the Programme and materials in the Course Book and will  be held  on 2 June in Zoom ,  from 10h-12h

Procedures for the exam:

Students will be sent a Zoom link the morning of the exam. They must log into the Zoom room with cameras turned on throughout the examination. Moreover, students who have not attended class regularly must show a photo ID with a recent photo so that I can verify student identification before the examination begins. Once, I have verified all candidates’ IDs I will send the written examination to students’ official email.

The written examination will have a duration of 90 minutes with 15 minutes tolerance. Students will submit their finished examination to my email paulah@letras.ulisboa.pt. All written examinations will be run through a plagiarism software before correction – any examination that is identified as having plagiarised material will not be evaluated.

Students will be expected to answer reflective questions on the materials discussed during the semester and reveal an understanding of the theoretical texts we have worked with.

If you have IT or Special Educational needs: Following the Dean’s email to the FLUL academic community on 5thMay 2020 and the FLUL website, if you have IT problems, you can contact Divisão de Sistemas e Informática em dsi@letras.ulisboa.pt ; if you have special educational needs you can contact nape@letras.ulisboa.pt. I would recommend you do this as soon as possible

Evaluation and course closure

6 Maio 2020, 12:00 Gaile Parkin

Zoom. Individual oral presentations, continued.

Course closure.

ALTERNATIVE EXAM DETAILS

Format: WRITTEN EXAM (2 HOURS) and ORAL EXAM (30 minutes)

Schedule: Written exam: Monday 01 June 12h – 14h (our normal class time)

Oral exam:  by individual appointment 03 – 06 June

Requirements for both components: a computer with a working camera and microphone; internet connection; Zoom. For the written component, your computer must be able to read PDF documents and allow you to work on (edit) a Word document (which may be converted to a Google document if necessary). If you intend to work on an iPad – which does not allow the camera to be on while you are working on a document – then you will need to use the camera on your phone. Your camera and microphone will need to be on the whole way through both components of the exam.

The WRITTEN EXAM will cover the work done during the whole of the semester, including the two short stories and the songs of Bob Dylan (and other protest songs) and Leonard Cohen.

There is no presentation or topic to prepare for the ORAL EXAM, which will cover material from the whole semester and may require you to elaborate on – or explain – answers that you gave in the written exam.

The B2.2 Final Exam

Remember that any enrolled student can take the final exam, regardless of their final mark at the end of the semester, either to pass or for improvement (‘melhoria’).

I will email the exam paper to you at around 10 am on Friday 5th June. You must send me your answers by midnight (24h00) on the same day (so you have a maximum of 14 hours to do it: should be enough, I hope!). That is the absolute deadline given by FLUL. I will not be permitted to accept any late arrivals or excuses.

You will have to do two pieces of writing based on texts in our anthology, “Are You The Type?” If you don't have a copy, ask me as soon as possible. I can send you a pdf.

The first piece of writing will be an essay, in which you will have to discuss “The Type” and “Sexuality and Gender” from a particular point of view. The point of view will be given on the exam paper.

You should write between 500 and 750 words. It is worth 50%.

The second piece will be some creative writing based on “Fat”. The original story is a 1st person narrative with the events being described by the waitress. In the exam, you will have to describe these same events, again in a 1st person narrative, from the perspective of one of the other characters in the story. I will tell you which character you must ‘be’ on the exam paper.

Again, you should write between 500 and 750 words. It is worth 50%.

If you have any doubts, get in touch with me.

Hope all's well!

Best wishes,

Mick
