We watched Michael McGovern's road movie One Week (2008) in preferation for the discussion of the film in light of Margaret Atwood's literary analysis theory presented in her critical essay Survival. 

Students need to read this text to prepare for the next class.

The importance of society/belonging to a cultural group 
Conflict about identity

New Criticism - close reading - reading with pen inhand.

Students applied close reading to the introductory section of the story and we discussed how this presented the progression of the story.

Presentation and discussion of Frank Watt's chapter "Nationalism in Canadian Literature".


Eva-Marie Kroller's "Introduction" to The Cambridge Companion to Canadian Literature will be the subject of discussion in the next class. This is not in the Course Manual so if you have not picked up a copy from the Red Copy Shop, please do so to prepare for this class.

This class was not taught because there was a major traffic accident on the Segunda Circular leading to extraordinary delays in all traffic coming into the city from the A1 - the access I use. All traffic was delayed for more than 3 hours.
