Headlinese and Journalese

Analysis of the specific way of writing involved in newspapers, particularly in the headlines used. Demonstration that examples such as "GOP VEEP PICK ROILS DEMS", which is perfectly understandable in the newspaper and its readership in the USA, should be translated into something which is also totally understandable in the new language. BELLOS (see bibliography) suggests this should appear (I am adapting this from his French example) as "A escolha do partido republicano para candidata a vice-presidente irrita os democratas."
