How to write a newspaper column: a) "Columns" by Peter Cole and Michael White (The Guardian)(TEXT 13); b) "Sorry We Stole Your Stuff" by Joe Donatelli (The Humor Columnist) (TEXT 14). HOMEWORK: Write a column of your own on a topic of interest to you. Write 800-1000 words. This assignment is due today a week.

Analysis of texts from: "You'll Never Eat Lunch In This Town Again" by Julia Phillips, about the falsehood involved in the media of TV and film; a text by Boris Johnson from the Telegraph, as an example of the sort of opinion article one expects from a quality newspaper in the UK; and a text, "Monitoring the Popular Press", expressing the view that, far from there having been a decline in standards in popular newspapers in Britain, they have always been interested in gossip and scandal.
