Close reading of film stills and literary texts

Reviewed students' close reading (denotative and connotative) of the film stills from Sully that are in their manuals.

Did I presented the students with the techniques for close reading in their manuals and they practiced with a poem (W.B. Yeats' "The Balloon of the Mind") and a short story (Kate Chopin's "Ripe Figs"). The first was a general class activity, the second carried out in groups where spokes people from each group presented part of the reflection of that group. This activity is in preparation for the presentations on the set novels where students will have to perform close readings on sections from each book.
