Presented the structure of the CAE and CPE exercises that students will do during the study week - these are on pages 7-12 of the student manual and these will be corrected on 20th Sept.
Also selected students to discuss the Prelude and the first 5 chapters of The Hopeless Life of Charlie Summers.on 22nd Sept. This is the novel set for the course.
Watched 4 of the speakers (Matthew Handley. Medhi Hassan - for the motion; Anne-Marie Waters and Daniel Johnson - opposing the motion) from the Oxford Union Debate on "Islam is a Peaceful Religion" - critiqued the preparation and presentation of the speeches to help student understand how to construct their own debates and speeches.
Homework assignment - prepare arguments to counter Medhi Hassan's presentation
