How to write an editorial - Part 1

4 Outubro 2021, 18:30 Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio

Today TP4 learned the basics of how to go about preparing and organizing an editorial piece, with the teacher modelling each step in the process.  The topic that was used for this model exercise was: Game of Thrones: was the ending so bad?

Step one: the teacher got feedback from students on what exactly they thought about the ending of the show.  (The feedback was entirely negative.)  Their opinions and ideas were brainstormed onto the board.

Step two: the teacher wrote in the center of a clean whiteboard her opinion:  GOT's ending was great because the show's message was always anti-monarchical, anti-imperial and pro-democratic.

Step three: the teacher then brainstormed on the board her arguments and examples to support her claim.

Step four: she then ranked her arguments from strongest to weakest so that she can then organize her arguments and begin writing her editorial.

Next class: we will go on to complete the steps and read and analyze the final product (which I will be writing as soon as possible).

A PowerPoint with all of the steps explained, plus whiteboard slides, plus a Word document of the editorial piece will be uploaded onto the shared drive as soon as possible.  Students will receive an email notifying them of the upload.
