Student led close reading exercises

As a second written evaluation students had the choice of preparing a close reading exercise based on their analysis a 250-word extract from their set novels or to do a summary of a larger text.
Students who chose to do the close reading evaluation sent me their analysis on 30th April.
Then in class, we broke into groups of 5-6 students, each one led by the student who had previously analysed the text. This student then distrubuted a copy of their set text to the members of the group and read it aloud to them after they had contextualised the text. They led the students in their group in discussion and finally reviewed the text taking their own notes and comments made by colleagues into consideration
Comparision of film and short story

Viewing of Ben Stiller's 2015 version of James Thurber's short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Began the discussion of the comparision of the two pieces. This will be continued in the next class.
