Close Reading exercises

Performed two close reading exercises on short extracts from Exit West and Not the Same Sky in preparation for the evaluated close reading exercises that will take place on 2nd and 7th May.
The techniques used were based on those presented on pages 11-13 of the course manual.
The analysis of the
Exit West text was done as a whole class exercise, to exemplify the exercise. The analysis of the text from
Not the Same Sky was done in groups of 3-4 students to permit practice of the techniques.
Students will have to perform one more written task for evaluation - either a close reading exercise (2nd or 7th May) or the summary writing exercise (9th May).
If students wish to do the close reading exercises based on the novel they have read, they must select the 150-200 word section they wish to analyse by 17th April and send their detailed analysis by 30th April- This analysis must follow the patterns of the exercise done today and the same exercise in the red copy shop.
