The remaining of the lecture was on Zoom discussing the videos and the information on them.

Workshop 8: text production

Jointly construction of the argument/ exposition initiated in workshop 7. Revision of the text. 

Under the Covid-19 contingency plan, the class was on Zoom. Students were distributed in groups by simultaneous rooms on Zoom and the lecturer worked with them in groups.

Lecture 10: Finding the proper register: interpersonal meanings

The expression of interpersonal meanings and the construction of tenor. Conversational maxims, cooperative principle, politeness principle and speech acts. Literal meaning vs pragmatic meaning, or congruent vs metaphorical meanings. Interpersonal grammatical metaphors. The correlation between speech act theory and genre theory.
