This practical class used two resources - a chapter of the exiled writer Rodaan Al Galidi, 2017, Two Blankets, Three Sheets, a Towel, a Pillow, and a Pillow case, as well as the photo-exhibition of Thana Faroq, 2018, The Passport to create a comment on Asylum policies in the EU, and their impact on asylum seekers. This exercise was graded.

European Asylum policies.

This class focused on European Asylum policies. Students gathered in small groups to work on the four “chapters” of the class, and presented them to fellow students. The first group worked on international protection, its definition and legal frameworks. A second group worked on the distribution of asylum seekers, refugees and other individuals protected by international law across the EU. A third group worked on the Dublin regulation and the debates occurring between 2015 and 2018. The conclusions were explored altogether.

Exercice to identify different “policy framings” sustaining the making of migration policy.

This practical class focused on migration policies, taking the example of the most recent policy reform under consultation in Portugal. Brining in a piece published on the Government portal, and a brief published by the collective Consortium Migration, students were encouraged to identify different “policy framings” sustaining the making of migration policy. This exercise was graded.
