De Ways of  Seeing, 1º Programa da Série Televisiva e 1º Capítulo do Livro, aos Conceitos de «Code», «Encoding» e «Decoding»

  • Procedeu-se à revisão dos sumários da semana anterior.
  • Considerado o uso que Berger faz da palavra «Convention» (logo a abrir o 1º programa de Ways of Seeing e na parte inicial do 1º capítulo do livro com o mesmo título, publicado logo após a série televisiva ter ido para o ar, e também no ano de 1972), prosseguiu-se a análise dos conceitos de «Code», «Encoding» e «Decoding» centrais para a problematização do que se entende por «Visual Culture», quer como objecto(s) de estudo, quer como área de estudos.
  • No contexto da análise em curso, pediu-se aos alunos que lessem o 1º capítulo de Practices of Looking, com especial atenção às suas 5 secções iniciais. Relativamente à 2ª secção, «Representation», foi referido Sir John Everett Millais, 1829–1896, Christ in the House of His Parents (The Carpenter’s Shop), 1849–50, Oil paint on canvas, Support: 864 x 1397 mm, Frame: 1590 x 1873 x 141 mm, (Tate Britain, London).  [Accessed: 16 October 2018].
