The lecturer gave a presentation on sense for sense and word for word translation.

Educational Activity:

Sts were divided into 5 groups and asked to work on the following tasks. They were required to use their knowledge of bibliographical sources related to the translation history in Portugal from the previous class.

The lecturer gave a session on archival structures (fonds, sub-fonds, series, and individual documents) and censorship studies. The lecture gave insights into the complexities of organising and interpreting historical records within the context of censorship research in Portugal.

Word for Word versus Sense for Sense Translation

Sts watched a short video on word for word versus sense for sense literary translation, created by Peter Constantine and Brian Sneeden from the University of Connecticut.

Then Sts took a short Google form quiz related to the video. They were asked to work in pairs.

Sts were split into three groups, and asked to give a working definition of "word-for-word translation", sense for sense-translation, and adaptation, respectively.
