Five Wikipedia “Facts”
For this presentation I would like you to look up five interesting facts on
Wikipedia – things that you think people do not know. Remember that whichever
facts you choose to discuss they should be non-biased and present a balanced
view of the topic, so a certain amount of detail should be given.
Of these five facts, however, one should be “false” and our aim in class
will be to discover which one.
Here are some possible topics:
- Your town or region
- A favorite band,
singer, composer or type of music
- A famous person from an
English-speaking country
You may choose other topics as well, as long as they are interesting!

Presentations on:
Conspiracy theories
For this mini-presentation I would like you to research and discuss a conspiracy theory from the list below. As I do not want two students presenting the same topic, please email me your choice as soon as possible!
Your presentation should consider the following questions:
1) What happened?
2) Why did it happen?
3) How likely or unlikely do you think the conspiracy theory is? Why?
1947 – Alleged UFO crash in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico.
1950’s – cold war against Communism.
1963 – JFK assassination.
1968 – Assassination of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy.
1969 – NASA moon landings.
1974 – Watergate scandal and impeachment of Richard Nixon.
1977 – Elvis Presley faked his own death.
1980 – John Lennon murdered by CIA – brainwashed assassin.
1994 – Kurt Cobain murdered (hit authorized by Courtney Love).
1994 – Waco massacre.
1995 – Oklahoma City bombing.
1997 – Princess Diana killed by British Secret Service.
2001 – 9/11 attacks in NYC.
In-Class Writing Exercise and Q&A for upcoming Midterms
30 Outubro 2017, 12:00 • Hilda Alexandra Prazeres Eusebio
Students were asked if they had any questions or doubts regarding grammar or any other areas of study for the upcoming midterm. There were no questions.
In light of this, we went to complete the course book and did the in-class writing assignment on the final page:
- B1.1 In-Class Writing: Transport
- Write a short piece (half a page of A4 or a full page of A5) describing the best or worst journey (plane, car, bus, train, etc.) you have ever been on.
Next class:
- The Midterm Listening Test.
- Following the listening test, those students who did not have their in-class writing assignment checked by the teacher will have this done so then.
