In-class assignment: writing a letter of advice in reply to one of Graham Norton's readers' letters sent to the Daily Telegraph. Multi-word verbs: prepositional verbs vs phrasal verbs (exercise on page 76). HOMEWORK: Do the exercises about If clauses (Conditionals) on pages 70-73).

Introduction to some aspects of jouralistic writing based on the text "Make the Most of your College Days." Writing a column: characteristics: ist person singular, informal, style, contractions, 1 idea, many arguments, inspired by a public event, the reader feels they know the identity of the writer, engageing.

1) Warm-up: recycling vocabulary, flash cards: "setting, withholding evidence, stab, line-up, one-way mirror, accessory after the fact, erosion, infringement", etc.

2) Checking homework

3) Dramatised reading of Ed McBain’s Short Story “Eye Witness” Characters: Officer Magruder, Detective Cappeli, Mr Sthruthers, Lieutenant Anderson, and the narrator: selected students read the short story aloud.

4) Reading comprehension exercises page 25-27.

5) Vocabulary building (crime), Exercises, page 21-22.

6) Witness game

pair work activity: half of the class witnessed a crime, the other half questioned the witnesses as police investigators.
